What “GCCM Built” Really Means
GCCM Built is a quality marker used to describe vessels that have been constructed or customised at Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) by onsite marine businesses in the shipyard sheds. The GCCM marine precinct brings together 90+ expert marine businesses—Australia’s largest concentration of marine trades—within a single, multi‑award‑winning facility in Coomera on the Gold Coast.
GCCM is recognised for many industry awards and a renewed 5 Gold Anchor accreditation, underscoring its service quality and capability across refit, repair and project delivery.
The GCCM Ecosystem: How Projects Are Delivered
- Precinct model, not a single builder: Projects at GCCM are delivered by independent specialist trades; a project manager assembles the capabilities required. GCCM offers project management, as do other business partners located in the shipyard.
- Depth of capability: With so many marine businesses in one location, project managers can hand‑select fabrication, engineering, coatings, electrical/electronics, joinery, composites, interiors, rigging and more.
- Facilities & standards: GCCM’s hardstand, sheds, travelifts and controlled environment support complex programs, with 5 Gold Anchor recognition and international awards validating quality.
Definition: What “GCCM Built” Represents
- Location: Major works completed at Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard.
- Delivery model: The project manager selects the right mix of on‑site specialist businesses from GCCM’s network.
- Standards: Work conducted within an award‑winning, 5 Gold Anchor‑accredited marine precinct.
Why the “GCCM Built” Standard Matters
- Right trades for the right task: Specialisation improves quality and reliability.
- Seamless logistics: Centralised trades and infrastructure reduce complexity and downtime.
- Industry credibility: Awards (e.g., Marina Industry Association Boatyard of the Year 2025; Best International Superyacht Refit Yard 2022) and 5 Gold Anchor signal consistent standards.

2) M/Y Evening Star — High‑Performance Custom Built Catamaran

Scope:
Built at Mahi Boats at GCCM, the custom-designed Schionning Solitaire 1520 named “Evening Star” is stunning, relying on a range of composites in its construction.
Dan Williams and a team of eight boat builders worked on the vessel completed early in 2026.
The owners chose the Schionning 1520 for its on-board space, balance and sailing performance.
As specified by Schionning, Dan used the DuFLEX panel system from ATL Composites, which he describes as “A great kit which fits together extremely well”.
“ATL’s DuFLEX panels are world-class,” he states. “ATL has been pioneering in this field. They are easily assembled, pre-laminated panels that enable fast construction.
Everything fits together perfectly, and to get the curves to match up is incredible!”
Selected trades: Built by Mahi Boats, located in the superyacht shed 59 at GCCM
Outcome: Delivered in February 2026
3) S/Y Wild One

Scope: Classic racer rebuild. The classic Wild Thing racing yacht rebirths as Wild One thanks to one of our passionate business partner, Con from Sweep Marine Racing!
“Four years ago, I started a project that many people thought was a little crazy.
I wanted to prove—to myself and to the industry—that craftsmanship, knowledge, and determination can transform something destined for scrap into something extraordinary.
The famous ocean racer Wild Thing was sitting abandoned and rotting away, with only two possible futures: be cut up or be rebuilt. With the hope of preserving a piece of racing history and inspiring the next generation of marine professionals, I bought her for $1.
Today, more than $260,000 and countless hours later, the project is nearing its final chapter.
She’s almost ready to be completed and if everything goes to plan, this will be the year we race again.
Sweep Marine Racing was created as a dedicated division of Sweep Marine to focus on the rebuild and future of this incredible vessel. The goal has always been simple: bring Wild Thing back as a capable ocean racer using skill, craftsmanship, and ingenuity—reusing second-hand materials wherever possible rather than relying on bolt-on solutions.
This project has never just been about a boat.
It’s about what’s possible when experience, persistence, and passion come together.”
Selected trades: Australian Marine Entreprises (AME), Sweep Marine Services, Southern Seas Marine, Blackpond Marine Consultants, GCCM, Marineware, Wicked Fabrications & Engineering, Transmarine Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, Quality Marine Clothing.
Outcome: Con is hopefull to be able to participate to the next Official Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race!
