Case studies

GCCM has lifted and worked on over 50,000 vessels since opening in 2000. From jet skis to superyachts, we have seen and done it all.

THE RESULTS
GCCM were the most hospitable shipyard PANGAEA has visited (ever). The staff and local contractors bent over backwards to assist in any
way needed. There was always a solution and everyone jumped at making it happen. The extra’s like complimentary crew car, buggy, and tender storage were great and very much appreciated. The use of the marina ablutions, that were impeccable, was also very helpful.
The front office staff were always available for recommendations and JB on the ground was a pleasure to work with. Special mention should
go to Sweep Marine, Seaspec Marine Services & Precision Diesel Works. Outstanding service from them. The experience was made more enjoyable by the fact that everyone was so professional and always maintained a smile and upbeat attitude even when things weren’t going their way. This is uplifting for all and really made the long hour much easier to bear.

GCCM has been the most refreshing shipyard experience I have had in many years of yachting. It makes me think, why haven’t we always done things in this manner before? What a great example this facility is to the industry on how things should be done. I can highly recommend them to industry peers and look forward to returning in the near future. Everyone really made us feel at home and welcomed. All our wishes were met with a smile and helpful attitude. What more can anyone ask for? Great job Kevin and team GCCM!

WORKS COMPLETED
Twin Disc removed the yacht’s triple Arneson surface drive propulsion system then took them to their workshop to rebuild them. The surface drives returned as new. Meanwhile, the yacht required its majestic and striking black hull to be renewed and the Owner selected a vinyl wrap. To wrap the hull, first the yacht stripped, repaired, faired, bogged and then primed before the vinyl was adhered. All the
hardware was removed and refurbished from the bulwarks down and successfully reattached to post wrap. It was also an opportunity to complete touch up to silver paint work on the topsides as well as the non-skid.

THE RESULTS
The timeframe for the works to be completed was tight. GCCM and the team of contractors were super efficient in receiving Murcielago, lifting her onto the hardstand and moving her into one of the fully enclosed painting sheds. Works up to date have all been done within scheduled time which shows the efficiency of the yard.

We have spent significant time on the yard and in the refit shed at GCCM. What has impressed me the most has been the flexibility, professionalism and accommodating nature of the yard staff and contractors. It has allowed us to complete an extensive list of works as  efficiently as possible. I will definitely be bringing the boat here every year for all the works needed. Thank you for making our experience as productive and painless as possible.

We had heard about this oasis up north where nothing was too difficult, the facility was expansive, and they would fit around your schedule. We didn’t quite believe it. When we arrived, the yard was a hive of activity and yet organised. To lift us, we needed to remove the back stay and within 10 minutes, Travis Slatter had the rigger down to remove it for us.

The wonderful aspect of working at GCCM is the collaboration between the trades. Someone will always help when you need it. Not many yards can boast this level of support from its contractors.

A big thank you to Con & his team! Their work is extremely thorough: their efficiency, respect for the assets on which they are working, attention to detail and a job well done is exemplary. Con is without doubt extremely generous with his time, advice and has great attention to details. It is for these reasons that I would highly recommend Sweep Marine Services.

We also used the time to complete a range of works calling on many of the contractors onsite at GCCM… the trip was well worth it as the yard was 50% cheaper than Sydney and the contractors were very price competitive. We have also encountered a really friendly community both in the GCCM team and the tenants. I have had access to a courtesy car which is
invaluable for someone way from their home port.

M/Y Shirley-Anne 36-metre Customer Motor Yacht

I have been in the Motor Yacht industry for the past 42 years and have worked all over the World in New Build and Refit Yards, working on vessel’s from 72-metres to 14-metres. I have run three different Boat Building yards in Australia, and understand the complexities of the process of builds and refit work and the challenges in running yards.  Late in 2018, I was asked to oversee a large Refit of a Classic Family Motor Yacht (M/Y Shirley Anne) that was originally built for the Owners Family in Australia and is now Owned by another family member and his wife who love the Motor Yacht. The task was to refit her to her former glory without changing her style and feel of the original design of the Motor Yacht. One of the major tasks was to design and integrate a new overhanging swim platform into the vessel without anyone realising anything had been added or changed on the vessel, this was achieved very successfully and the Owners are delighted with the complete refit.  The Captain and I considered a few yards and facilities in Australia and New Zealand to complete the works (in a clean and safe environment). It didn’t take us long to narrow down the preferred site to Gold Coast City Marina, which was able to offer us all the facilities and trades people we need to complete the works in the right environment. They were very helpful in the whole process of the refit and it was an easy place to work from. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and were always available at all times to help us with whatever we needed.  It was a pleasure to complete the refit at Gold Coast City Marina and I would recommend Kevin and his team to anyone looking for a facility for refit and repair works.
